Lyrics

Lightning lights up Lori Parker’s bedroom late last night
She lies awake with plans to make plans to change her life.
Something’s pulling at her heart, tugging at her soul
She wants to keep her senses but she needs to lose control

She rides to work each morning on a train under the ground
She stares at all the faces as she makes her way cross town
Anger and indifference are the colors of the day
So Lori sighs, shuts her eyes and hears another way.

She hears mandolins dancing on the wind
Telling her to leave this place and not come back again
She’s heading someplace that she’s never been
She doesn’t know how to get there so she’s following the sound
She may be city born and city bred
But she’s country bound

She listens to the lyrics of her favorite country song
The images they conjure up are pure and good and warm
She’s like to learn the two-step underneath a willow tree
Or maybe find herself a cowboy
Like she’s seen on CMT.

She hears mandolins dancing on the wind
Telling her to leave this place and not come back again
She’s heading someplace that she’s never been
She doesn’t know how to get there so she’s following the sound
She may be city born and city bred
But she’s country bound
